Yesterday my uncle was awarded the police bravery award and was the first policeman ever to be awarded.  He received the award because he dragged two children from a burning car risking his own life to save them.  Last night he was on TVNZ's Close Up recieiving the award.  When I watched the programme I felt extremely proud of my uncle.  As you can see in the pitcure he received serious burns to his arms and hands.  Check out the link below to watch the video.

Welcome back to Term 4!  At the moment we are reading "Nickolai of the North" which is about a boy who grows up to be Santa Claus.  The story is set in the North Pole and talks about the Northern Lights.  We are unsure of what the Northern Lights are.  There is a challenge for the first student to find out about what the Northern Lights are.  Can you help us?
CONGRATULATIONS AMELIA! The first student to research what the Northern Lights are. This is what she found out:

This is some of our maths art that we have been working on for a week.
First we had to get a piece of
paper and get a pencil to make the dot any where on the sheet.
Through the dot draw about twelve-ten intersecting lines across the point.
Draw a set of lines parallel to one of the intersecting lines.Shading alternate regions using any two colours.

In the holidays I went to Auckland with my family and Mac for 4 days. My favourite part was going to the Auckalnd Zoo. My favourite animal there was the tiger because it was running around a lot and playing. We also went up Sky Tower but forgot to take Mac. I stood on the glass floor and I wasn't really scared! It was really cool to see people bungy jumping off the tower.

The Day The Jets Came!
Today 3 of the Jets Basketball players came to North Street School to teach us skills and drills about basketball.  There was Paul, Richard and Darryl.  Two were from America (one from Detroit and one from Florida).  They had strong accents!  The players were very tall!
We did relays and went on the obstacle course. If we didn't cheer for our team they made us do 10 press ups! Erin got hit in the nose with a basketball and continued to keep running even with blood pouring out - commitment Erin!
Jade, Paige and Timi have all been to watch the Jets play.
We had a really cool time and we had heaps of fun.

Kia Kaha cards
On Friday we were doing Kia Kaha cards.  We used blue and orange cards.  The blue were the rights cards and the orange were the responsobility cards.  We played naughts and crosses with the cards and then we had to match them up by identifying the matching cards.  We discussed that when our rights aren't respected we feel diappointed, unrespected, sad, angry, distracted and depressed.

Mac's weekend with Yasmine!
Once upon a time Mac went home with Yasmine for the weekend!  While Yasmine played netball Mac hid in Tania's (Yasmine's Mum) jacket because it was splattering down with rain.  Thankfully Yasmine's netball team (North St School A) won by 11 goals.  Watch out for Macs next adventure! To be continued...
